Ventura County Pride Festival

This weekend is the Ventura County Pride Festival in downtown. I'll have some work up in Arts on Main at 242 Main St along with some other ultra talented people! Should be a good show and 30% of all sales are donated to the Pride association.
From 6-9pm, I'm hosting an informal life drawing session in the back of Arts on Main. Our lovely and talented model, Alanna Burns, will be fully costumed and fabulous for our drawing pleasure. It's $10 to sit in, and like I said, very informal. So if you're interested, bring a pillow, your drawing board, some wine (why not??) and let's have a good time!

Chain Letter show at Shoshana Wayne Gallery

Check out all the press this baby has gotten:

LA Weekly
Huffington Post
KCRW
Art21

I swear every time I go to an art event, I overhear at least one other person talking about the show. It. Was. MASSIVE. My entry was #940 and according to one of the above articles, they cut it off somewhere around 1600. Damn! What a fun thing to participate in. Special thanks to my awesome boss who let me take the day off work to install my piece at Bergamot Station. <3

Shoshana Wayne Gallery at Bergamot Station

I'm taking part in what seems like it's going to be a MASSIVE group show at Shoshana Wayne Gallery in Santa Monica. It all started with a chain letter...sent to ten artists who each invited ten more artists who then each invited ten more and so on and so on...
Install is tomorrow and the opening reception this Saturday from 6-8 pm. It's gonna be epic!

ArtWalk this weekend!

The time has come for Ventura's Art Walk, and this year I am finally able to be part of it! Come see me at my studio (248 Main) Saturday from 1-5ish (though the studio is open til 9 pm) and Sunday noon to 5. Saturday I have to leave early for a show I'm doing at Shoshana Wayne Gallery at Bergamot Station in Santa Monica, but my sculptural doppelganger, Jamie Danielson, will be there in my absence. Check out my latest work and some new stuff for sale, plus all of Jamie's awesome surreal three-dimensional pieces.

New studio now open

It seemed like it was never going to happen, but I made it through finals, I graduated, moved out of my parents' house, moved into my own place AND I got my very own studio. A weeks have gone by and the dust has settled, the boxes are unpacked (though still not taken by the garbage man...I'm pretty sure he sneers at me every time he comes by my recycling bin...) and my studio is finally set up and ready for action. We (the other artists I share the building with) are all trying to come up with a date for a fun open house/art event and it's looking like it's going to happen sooner rather than later. When we finally get a date set I'll let you all know so you can come check it out! In the meantime I snapped a few photos of my space today...
My messy work area

The "reception" room...

The reception area from my work space...the shelf under the mirror is covered in candles stolen from French churches and pictures of Frida Kahlo. My own shrine.

Opening night of Scheherazade

Last night was opening night of Scheherazade performed by the New West Symphony Orchestra. Good turnout of people...I sold one poster and hoping to sell much more tonight in Thousand Oaks! Rush student tickets are only $10 so come on out and see the show. Get one of my 98 posters left while they're still available! :\

So I finally finished it over the weekend. Glad that it's done in time for the deadline but kind of sad that I'm done painting it. I was having so much fun! Oh well...there's plenty more canvases in the studio... :)

Tom's Shoes Event successful...and fun!

At Wholefoods in Venice today. It was slow going at first but then people caught on and it was super fun! I could even possibly make cameo appearances at the store in the future for more shoe painting awesomeness! Check out some of the shoes I painted today...

New West Symphony Orchestra

http://www.facebook.com/pages/New-West-Symphony/70180076434

If you have fb (and who doesn't), check out the latest from New West Symphony. A piece about the 5 artists creating visual imagery to go with the orchestra's performance of Scherehazade. For more info or ticket prices, check out their website at http://www.newwestsymphony.org/. I will continue posting on the progress of my piece for this concert as soon as I have a minute to upload photos (phone is dead at the moment).

Yay, New West! And yay, NW team. This is an exciting project...I can't wait to see the final outcome. :)

TOM'S Shoes Event! Tuesday 4/5 in Venice

A friend of mine just invited me to paint TOM'S shoes at Wholefoods in Venice on Tuesday. It's usually a busy event with people lined up waiting to get cute little designs painted on their shoes. Any donations to the painters will be donated to the Japan Relief Fund. If you're in the area, come see me, get your shoes painted and donate to a good cause!
